Real Talk I Cant Stop Comparing My Career to My Friends and its Making Me Miserable

Real Talk I Cant Stop Comparing My Career to My Friends and its Making Me Miserable Does anyone else find they are constantly comparing their career to their friends careers or even their coworkers? one FGBer wrote to the Community.I am constantly feeling like I should be more advanced at this point, should be making more money, should feel more certain about my path/goals all because Im looking at what other people are doing. I recognize this link of thinking can be dangerous, but I cant seem to stop myself. If anyone else has experienced this do you have any tips?Several FGBers responded to the post, offering advice and support.Comparison is the thief of joy, one wrote. My advice dont compare. Think about your own successes and be proud of them. Its hard to elend pay attention to friends are doing with their jobs, another said. Hearing about about someones raise, promotion and cool work perks can make you feel like youre doing something wrong. But the reality is, comparing your jo b to the jobs of others is a waste of time that leads to unnecessary bitterness. And a third said, Their job probably isnt relevant to yours. Even if youre in the same industry or have the same job at different companies, its impossible to have the exact same skill set or experience. So comparing is setting yourself up for a disaster. Be proud of what you doTheyre right. It is difficult to not compare yourself to those around you. Especially when behauptung days, career accomplishments are flooding our social media feeds and causing us to question our own accomplishments or lack thereof.I think that everyone compares themselves to colleagues and friends on career progress, one woman said. To a degree, that is normal. But getting obsessive about it? Not good. Consider your career as only one component in your life. Other components are family, friends, community work, hobbies, health, etc. The important thing is to be happy across the spectrum, even if one or more areas are not perfec t. One more thing you probably dont know about challenges that your friends are facing the challenges that they dont disclose. It might be that your colleagues and friends are envying you in ways you dont know about. It may be impossible to avoid these feelings, but it is possible to counter them with positive thoughts. When you begin feeling this way, remind yourself of your own accomplishments. List your recent accomplishments, as well as your future goals and the ways you are working toward them. Be proud of the things you have done, and how hard you have worked to achieve them. And, if anything, use this as motivation to continue moving forward in your life.I recommend doing your best to shift your focus inward, one FBGer advised. Keep a tally of your accomplishments and what youre grateful for. This will remind you of whats going RIGHT with you. Im certain there are lots of things. A fun exercise is to take a small jar and whenever you have an accomplishment, write it on a post i t and put it in the jar. It makes you stop to acknowledge good news, and you can visually see the jar fill up. If you start if for 2019, you can dump out the jar at this time next year and reflect on how awesome you areSign upto ask your own questions to the FGB Community.

Gender diversity provides huge benefits in the workplace. pWhile some industries have made significant advancements in gender dive rsity, some industries lag further behind... and the construction industry is well-known for being in the latter category. If someone says, construction workers, youll likely picture a group of men in yellow hard hats analyzing an architects plans or laying bricks on top of a scaffold. And men at work signs only help to reinforce this image.pThis stereotype is rooted in reality. When welches the last time you actually spotted a woman on a construction site? Or hired a female plumber or carpenter? Your answer is most likely never. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statisticsreports that only 3.4% of the total of 8.3 million construction employees are women.pBut the construction industry has a lot more to offer than steel-toed boots and hard hats, and it needs women to help advance the industry in this era of rapid change. Here are 5 reasons why women joining the workforce or looking to make a pivot should consider a career in construction.h21. Fuel Innovation/h2pNot only is diversity the socially and morally right thing to do, but it is also actually an excellent business strategy. pResearch presented in the Harvard Business Reviewshows that diverse teams develop more innovative ideas. This is further supported by a study conducted by Gallupon the performance of gender-diverse teams versus single-gender teams, which found that the difference in backgrounds and perspectives lumineszenzdiode to better business performance and problem-solving. h22. Capitalize on Demand/h2pThe construction industry is currently experiencing a labor shortage. The industry itself is booming and projected to be one of the fastest-growing industries, with total spending projected to exceed $1.45 trillion in 2023/a. However, most construction companies are unable to meet the rising demand. pAccording to the Associated General Contractors of America/a, more than 80% of contractors are experiencing difficulties filling hourly craft positions that represent the bulk of the construction workforc e.pAnd demand isnt limited to individual contributor roles. Given the industry boom, there are a number of open stable and high-paying roles (any project managers out there?) waiting for the right candidateh23. Leadership Opportunities/h2pAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics/a, women compose only 7.7% of the total 1 million managerial positions in construction.br/pBut given the highly collaborative nature of construction work, more women in leadership roles would help drive innovation and enhance productivity.Furthermore, as a woman in construction in a leadership position, youd have the unique opportunity to drive change for the industry and make it a more attractive vorkaufsrecht for other women.h24. High-Income Potential/h2pSalaries for many skilled positions in construction are on the rise, making a construction career a prime choice for women looking for a high-paying job,pThe 2018 Construction Craft Salary Surveyconducted by the National Center for Construction Educatio n and Research revealed that salaries for many skilled craft areas are increasing. Project managers and project supervisors topped the list at $92,523 and $88,355, respectively. The next set of highest-paying jobs include those of combo welders ($71,067), instrumentation technicians ($70,080), pipe welders ($69,222), power line workers ($68,262) and industrial electricians ($67,269). Of the 32 categories of workers in the survey, 19 positions earned an average salary of $60,000 or higher.h25. Sense of accomplishment/h2p The construction industry can give employees a unique sense of achievement. Yes, the job is stressful and the work can be demanding, but nothing beats the feeling of being able to build something from the ground up. pHow many professionals in other industries can point at a school, a hospital, or a skyscraper and say I helped build that?pThe construction industry has a long way to go in combating gender bias and supporting women in the workforce, but given the curren t demand for workers, theres no better time to plek up a sledgehammer (figurative or literal) and smash the gender stereotypes plaguing the construction industry.

3 ways to respond to curveballs you didnt see coming

3 ways to respond to curveballs you didnt see coming3 ways to respond to curveballs you didnt see comingI thought it was going to be a normal update call. I thought I was going to hear a little bit of interesting news about how ur project was moving forward. Lets just say I got all of that and mora, way more. My face was already in my hands crying by the time I hit end on my phone screen. Not because the news was bad, but because I wasnt expecting it. I didnt see this coming. And for a project I cared about deeply, it was not exactly how I would have picked it all to go. But I got wrapped up in my head, about how this wasnt the plan, and about all of the things that would be different because of the new direction. I wallowed in 24 good straight hours of freaking the fuck out.Look at the bright side my friend said to me. And then proceeded to list out the seven different ways that this could be a really, really great thing. Like a spectacularly good thing. Like maybe the best of both w orlds pre- and post-curveball.So lesson number one call your most positive friend for the bright side that you know youll get from herI responded to that friend with But this wasnt how it was supposed to go. I realized though that the more we resist the change, the more friction we cause for ourselves. Because we cannot cannot cannot control how and when things happen. The more we think we can, the more frustration were bound to experience. So lesson number two lean into changeItll help you get closer to the bright side quicker.I guess this isnt the worst thing, I said to myself once I calmed down, and proceeded to come up with two different scenarios that could have been way worse in order to make myself feel better. Most times curveballs arent the worst. Theyre simply a changeup you didnt see coming. So if its not the worst thing, then dont act like it is just because it wasnt your exact plan or timeline.Lesson number three dont get apocalyptic about curveballsAnd remind yourself t his isnt the end, this is just the change.Youre bound to get curveballs thrown your way, simply because youre alive. Sometimes things will march according to plan, but most times they wont. You wont see them coming, but you do have full ownership over what magic you get to create with them. Often a change of plans is whats needed to get to exactly where we need to be.This article was originally posted on MaxieMcCoy.com.

Google finds that teenagers dont care about money or jobs

Google finds that teenagers dont care about money or jobsGoogle finds that teenagers dont care about money or jobsAh, youth. A time when YouTube, Netflix and Google are the coolest things you can spend your time on.Wait, what?Yes, teenagers of Gen Z have dubbed Netflix, YouTube and Google the coolest brands on earth, according to a new report called Its Lit fromGoogle. The tech giant, which is one of the biggest players in online advertising, surveyed 400 teenagers to find out which brands, and which activities, are driving the awareness of 14-to-17 year olds. There are some surprises among Googles finding and some not-so-surprising things. One surprise the majority of teens, or 60%, favor Instagram as their favorite social media platform, even more than Snapchat at only 56%. Facebook follows with 53% of teens on the platform, while Twitter is nearly nowhere with only 36%.Another surprise? Teens dont care very much about jobs or money, which is possibly a change from previous decades i n which summer jobs (and saving for cool trips or a car) were a defining teen activity. Then again, since most adults barely care about what theyre doing at work, maybe the teens have just caught whatever their parents have. Now, video games are the coolest activity for teens - especially the Legend of Zelda, COD Black Ops, and Grand Theft Auto, followed by technology and sports. As for the most popular brands for teens? YouTube leads, follow by Netflix, Google, Xbox (those video games again), Oreo, GoPro, Playstation and Doritos. The results should be taken with a grain of (highly processed) salt, however. Why? Well, while teens like many of the usual pop-culture suspects, like Ariana Grande, Chance the Rapper, Drake and Beyonc, the study claims that the young people of today also likeColdplay. Thats a little suspicious.https//twitter.com/AlexJamesFitz/status/848967345850785796

The job of a good story is to engage and inform, and your resume is no different you should write it using the kind of active, exciting language in our training coordinator resume sample. It begins with a summary that invites reader interest by making confident statements of the jobseekers strengths and particular areas of expertise. This summary replaces the outdated objective statement that hiring managers are tired of seeing. Instead of telling employers what you want, you should show them what you can do. With the right skills, you can attract the job offer you want without having to fall back on obsolete objective statements. The skills sections should be no less engaging, with keywords taken from your target job description s that depict your qualifications in a concise format. These keywords should be relevant and highly specific, such as the terms resource coordination and large group presentations used in the training coordinator resume sample. The work history section, however, is where the real power shows. Describe your employment history in brief, well-crafted bullets that use action-oriented language. Not sure what action-oriented language is? Take a look at the training coordinator resume sample. The very first bullet reads, Maintains a running series of off-site training courses. The first word in that bullet is an action verb, which is a verb that replaces passive language with strong wording showing active involvement and investment in each task.Ready to round things out? Then take a look at the education section. You, more than most, know exactly how important a solid educational foundation is, with a good mix of degree education, training courses, and certifications. You also know that as important as your education is, a simple description of it has the most impact. Format this section cleanly and neatly with nothing more than the degree or course name, institution, and dates. Why You Need a Strong Training Coordinator ResumeAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the United States will add only 2,300 management-level training roles between now and 2024. That leaves a narrow window of opportunity, with far more candidates than available jobs creating a bottleneck in which only a few jobseekers will make it through the gatekeepers for serious consideration. In order to beat the hordes out of the gate and pull ahead of the rush, you need a solid, well-written resume like our training coordinator resume sample to make you stand out from the crowd. The resume is simple yet informative, clearly organized, and presents the kind of impactful information that stays fixed in the readers mind. The term dress to impress is just as applicable to your resume, and you should dress it up to impress hiring managers with your qualifications.Costly Training Coordinator Resume Mistakes To AvoidQuality control is essential in a good resume, and youll want to curate your information to include only the most pertinent details relevant to your target jobs. Avoid including unnecessary information or older career history that doesnt show your long-term progression. You should also avoid getting so bogged down in the details of the courses and workshops you taught that you forget to discuss their impact. Always detail the results of your accomplishments and the ways your contributions to training program development and management improved the organization. For instance, our training coordinator resume sample mentions reducing training costs by outsourcing portions of class preparation.Lastly, dont forget to focus on your managerial skills. Part of being a training coordinator is taking ownership of the training programs youre involved in, so you should combine a so lid mix of management capabilities with on-the-ground, hands-on training talents. Ignoring this information can portray you as less experienced than you truly are, and hiring managers may pass you over for positions offering more authority.Training Job Resume Questions1.
